The selection process is random. We randomly draw 80 citizens of the Town of Moncks Corner (either by driver’s license/voter registration) After disqualifications/exemptions such as being over 65 years old or having a disability, the 80 juror pool is drastically cut down. This is why we greatly appreciate each juror who appears. Each person charged with a crime has a right to request a jury trial and we could not function without jurors from our town.
Each trial is unique. Some trials may have 5 witnesses who all need to testify while others may have a lengthy video that has be played for the jury. Trials are only scheduled for the day but can last anywhere from 15 minutes to seven or eight hours.
No, we will not provide meals. We have vending machines available for use but we ask that you plan your meals accordingly before coming to court. If we have more than one trial that day and you are selected to be a juror then we will tell you what time to be back that day so you will have a chance to leave.
The judge can find you in contempt of court if you do not appear or contact the court. It is punishable by a fine or 30 days in jail. We ask that you mail back or bring in the bottom portion of the summons prior to the jury trial date.
